816 Day is the annual city-proclaimed celebration of Kansas City culture, featuring live entertainment, branded events, and special deals. On this day, community connectedness is strengthened by local business and resident pride.

816 Day is named after our city’s area code and takes place yearly on August 16th. On this date in 2018, Mayor Sly James signed Resolution 180592 to celebrate the newest holiday “816 Day,” thanks to a collaborative effort by KC Streetcar Authority, the City Market, KC Where You At, and the Downtown Neighborhood Association, along with other representatives from the 816 Day Planning Committee.

816 Day Downtown Bingo is brought to you by the Downtown Neighborhood Association, KC Streetcar, Art in the Loop, Downtown Council, City Market, Visit KC, and Crown Center.

What’s new this year?

816 Day

816 DAY BINGO

Celebrate 816 Day between July 31 - August 16, 2026 with a friendly game of Scavenger Hunt Bingo. Access the game HERE!

Prizes include: a KC Staycation (a one night stay at Loews KC + a $100 GC to Palm Tree Club + a $100 GC to Pierponts), several other $100 or $50 gift card to other local businesses, and 3 separate pairs of tickets to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum!

All prizes will be raffled off on Sunday, August 16th at City Market, following the Art in the Loop performances at approximately 8:00 PM. While you do not need to be present at the raffle to win, the ultimate KC Staycation prize package does require attending the Art in the Loop event on 816 Day at some point between 6-8PM.

HOW TO WIN

To celebrate everything Kansas City, there are two distinct ways to win through our 816 Day Bingo game.

The KC Staycation:

All prizes will be raffled off on Sunday, August 16th, following the Art in the Loop performances at approximately 8:00 PM. While you do not need to be present at the raffle to win, the ultimate KC Staycation prize package requires a bit of event participation. To qualify for the staycation raffle, participants must check-in at a minimum of one square in every participating neighborhood—including the Central Business District, Crossroads, and the West Bottoms—and scan the exclusive Art in the Loop bonus square. This specific bonus square can only be completed by attending the live performances on the evening of August 16th (starting at 6pm at the City Market).  The staycation package includes one free night at Loews KC Hotel, a $100 gift card to Palm Tree Club, a $100 gift card to Pierpont’s and possibly some other small surprises.

Other prizes:

If you are focused on collecting local flavor, you can also win from our assortment of gift cards through a tiered entry system based on your total exploration. Your chances of winning increase as you visit more locations across the city's 37 participating squares. Checking in at 1 to 10 squares earns you one entry for a variety of $50 gift cards to local establishments. Stepping up your game with 11 to 20 squares grants you two additional entries, while dedicated explorers who visit between 21 and 37 squares will receive three more entries.  Gift cards range from $50 to $100 in value for different KC businesses, or tickets to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

816 DAY SPECIALS

  • Burrito Bros: Build your own 2 tacos just the way you like them, served with chips, salsa, and a fountain drink. Normally $9.50, but for 816 Day they’re serving it up for just $8.16! (Steak and shrimp are not included with this special.)

  • Press’d: Celebrate 816 Day with any of the fresh Press’d juices for just $8.16! (regularly $11)

  • Museum of BBQ: $8.16 tickets to the museum on 816 Day (regularly $11.10).

For Individuals Get out there! Stop by participating local businesses during the scavenger hunt and check out the planned events on August 16th. Help us spread the word, and dress to show your KC pride.

For Businesses Here are a few ideas to get you started, but we encourage you to get creative.

  • Offer specials for $8.16 (or $18.16).

  • Host local entertainment, art or vendors.

  • Introduce a KC inspired food, beverage or merch.
